The leather strap known as a brace serves the important function of loosening or tightening a hood on the bird. In falconry, a hood is used to cover a bird's eyes and reduce its visual stimuli, helping to calm and control the bird during handling and transport. The brace allows for a secure fit, ensuring that the hood stays in place without causing discomfort to the bird. By adjusting the brace, falconers can create a snug fit that keeps the hood well-positioned while avoiding any potential harm to the bird. This precise adjustment is crucial for the well-being of the hawk and for ensuring effective training and handling practices.

The other choices represent functions that are not associated with the brace, such as tying wings together or measuring weight, which have different methods and tools dedicated to them in falconry.
